EVENT INFORMATION

‘Long Walk To Eden’ is a thought provoking body of work by local artist Julia Milns - a layered narrative that refers to the struggle, resilience and adaptation to change of our natural spaces; and a call to action locally and globally to create and protect.

Comprising of large scale hanging rice paper drawings, intriguing installations and ceramic origami sculptures, the exhibition hopes to invoke dialogue about the protection of our resources from depletion or degradation and ways to support innovative sustainable solutions in order to survive. Created with earth, water, air and heat, Julia’s ceramic sculptures parallel the soil processes essential to our existence. The intricate drawings make use of charcoal, lichen and moss derivative, Spirulina, as pigments; all of which perform a crucial role in the processes that assist in the production of fertile soil.

Julia Milns is a Manchester based multi-disciplinary artist, working from AWOL studios in Ancoats, a rapidly developing area with some green solutions in progress.
